UAE & Dubai Travel Insurance for Indians: Visa and Health-Cover Checklist
Insurance requirements in the UAE vary by visa/residency route. Learn what Indian tourists should verify before travel.
Last reviewed: 5 October 2026. This is an educational guide for Indian students and travellers. Insurance and visa rules can change; verify the exact visa category and policy wording before purchase. This is not financial, insurance, legal or immigration advice.
Check the exact visa type
UAE rules vary across tourist, long-term tourist, residence and medical-entry routes. Do not apply one insurance rule to every traveller.
Long-term tourist visa
The UAE government’s tourist-visa guidance lists a valid health-insurance policy applicable in the UAE for the five-year multiple-entry tourist visa.
Residents and workers
Health-insurance obligations also apply in employment/residency contexts, with rules that differ from short tourist travel.
What to check before paying for a policy
- Is insurance mandatory for your exact visa category, or only recommended?
- Does the policy cover the complete travel period and correct countries?
- Check emergency medical limits, evacuation/repatriation, deductibles, exclusions and pre-existing-condition wording.
- Confirm whether the embassy/visa centre requires a specific certificate format or insurer eligibility.
- Keep the policy certificate and emergency-assistance details accessible during travel.
Important distinction
Use the UAE government or ICP/GDRFA page for the exact visa being used and make sure the policy is valid in the UAE.
